Ardythe M. Gaus, 78, of New Providence, PA died Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy, PA. She was the companion of Donald L. McVey for 53 years. Born in Fulton Township on October 19, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Bessie Elville Griest. Surviving beside her companion are 2 children, Tammy (Timothy) Adams of Holtwood, Donnie E. Gaus of New Providence; 3 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Naomi England of Oxford and Louise Davis of Quarryville. She is now in heaven with her son Gregory Gaus who preceded her in death. Amelia R. “Meme” Stoner, 78, entered into rest at her home in Quarryville on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. Meme, as she was loving known was born in Quarryville, she was a daughter of the late Henri and Helen (Reinhart) Raub. She and her husband, Marvin S. Stoner had celebrated 37 years of marriage in June. Meme was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. She led an active, full life with her family and many friends. She volunteered at her church, collected antiques to decorate her home, and traveled. Combining many of those passions, Meme participated in mission work at Pine Ridge Reservation in North Dakota, helping people of the Sioux Nation. Above all, she shared profound love and laughter with everyone in her company. Cleo R. Heck, 98, of Nottingham, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. Born in Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Mattie (Richardson) Roland. Her husband, Fred S. Heck died in 2012. Cleo and her husband owned and operated the former Oak Hill Store. She also helped on the family farm. She was a member of New Providence Baptist Church. Pauline E. Plank, 95, formerly of Willow Street, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 12, 2015 at Susquehanna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in West Lampeter, she was a daughter of the late Evan and Edna (Harnish) McKinney. Pauline graduated from West Lampeter High School and went on to work for the former Hamilton Watch Company. She was a member of Willow Street U.C.C. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed bowling at Leisure Lanes, Rocky Springs, and the former Garden Spot Bowling Center in Strasburg. Elizabeth M. Frick, 87, formerly of New Providence, PA, went to her heavenly home on January 12, 2016 at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. She had resided there since July 28, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Richard V. Frick on July 3, 2010. Born in Strasburg, PA, to the late Harry and Oma Himes Toms on November 21, 1928. She had worked at Keppel’s Candy Factory, and later she worked at J.L. Clark retiring in 1990. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling, crocheting, working outside in the yard with her flowers, and being with people. She was a ray of sunshine to all that knew her. She enjoyed being with family, especially her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She was a member of New Providence Church of God for Over 60 years where she and her husband had served on the visitation team for many years. Rodney Dean Lefever, 80, of Kirkwood, entered into rest at his home on Wednesday evening, January 6, 2016. Born in Kirkwood, he was a son of the late Barton “Jackie” and Annie V. (King) Lefever. Dean and his wife, Beatrice M. (Groff) Lefever had celebrated 23 years of marriage in May. Dean served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired after 37 years from Ferguson & Hassler Supermarket in Quarryville. Dean loved woodworking, hunting and traveling. James J. Maley, 83, of Oxford, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at his daughter’s home in Oxford surrounded by his family.
He was the husband of Louise E. Haag Osborne Maley with whom he shared 25 years of marriage. Born in Oxford, he was the son of the late James C. and Margaret J. Durham Maley. Jim was employed as a foreman with PennDOT until his retirement. He was also employed at Thiokol in Elkton. He was a member of the Media Mennonite Church, Oxford. Jim was an avid bowler and bowled on different leagues for many years. He enjoyed watching football and baseball and spent hours talking about baseball with his grandson. Robert C. Sage, Sr., 72, of Peach Bottom PA, passed away on January 5, 2016. He was the husband of Deborah Sheets Sage. They had been together for over 46 years. Born in Grayson County, VA, a son of the late V. Clarence and Ethel Clyde Duvall Sage. Robert had retired after 30 years as a heavy equipment mechanic with Cedar Hill Quarrys. Robert was an avid car enthusiast. He was a member of the Recycled Teenage Cruisers car club, and enjoyed traveling to attend car shows. Robert attended Wrightsdale Baptist Church. James L. Herr, 72, of Quarryville PA, passed away on January 5, 2016 following a courageous battle with lymphoma. He was the husband of Linda Barr Herr. They had celebrated 50 years of marriage. An active fireman, Jim had been a lifetime member of the Quarryville Fire Company. He had served as fire chief from 1979-1986 and was a past president. He had also been active in the Quarryville Community Ambulance. Jim was an avid fast pitch softball pitcher. He enjoyed hunting, and was a member of the Twin Mt. Camp, Potter Co. He had proudly served in the US Army (1968-1971) in the Vietnam War. Jim was a member of Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church where he was also a member of the men’s bible class. A lifelong farmer, he had worked at Agway, James Groff and Sons, and Grainco, Inc., all of Quarryville. He was born in Lancaster PA, a son of the late Paul M. and Esther L. Houck Herr. Lelia M. Groff, age 85, of Springville Road, Quarryville, PA died Monday, January 4, 2016 at Conestoga View, Lancaster, PA following a brief illness. She was the widow of Lloyd F. Groff who died August 4, 2005. Born in Drumore Township, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Mary Bertha Irvin Rhoads. A life-long farmers wife, she also was employed as a cook for Harvest Drive. Her hobbies were cooking and knitting. |
