One set of volunteers started work at 7 last Wednesday morning, picking sweet corn on the Redcay farm in East Drumore Township.
The first of three pickup loads of corn arrived at the large show barn at the Solanco Fairgrounds about half an hour later.
There more volunteers began husking and cleaning the ears, cutting the kernels from the cobs, and sealing corn in freezer bags. At 8:30, about 45 volunteers were processing the corn.
By the time they finished working almost four hours later, they had put up 175 quart bags and 100 gallon bags to be taken to a freezer trailer at Maplehofe Dairy.
The sweet corn will be used to make chicken corn soup and be served with the ham dinner at this year's fair.
