Solanco High School students are getting ready for their annual homecoming celebration. Activities will begin Tuesday, October 15. The homecoming queen will be crowned at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, October 18, before the start of the Solanco-Elizabethtown football game. The king will be crowned at the homecoming dance on Saturday, October 19. If it rains Friday night, the homecoming queen will also be crowned during the dance.
This year's candidates are:
Donna Montgomery, daughter of Dave and Meg Montgomery of Nottingham. She is the junior class treasurer and participates in the spring musical, Ophelia club, Spanish Club, and Spanish Honor Society. She is a varsity cheerleader and a Renaissance ambassador. She plans to attend college and major in speech and language pathology. Nolan Quinn of Quarryville, son of Theresa Quinn, Joe Watts, Keith Quinn, and Gina Quinn, will escort Montgomery. He has played basketball and baseball, participated in chorus and the student senate, and is a member of the Ophelia Club. He plans to continue his education in a business field. Jessica Lapp, daughter of Mahlon and Judy Lapp of Quarryville. She is a member of the varsity field hockey team and Christians in Action. Mark J. Ross, son of Jean and Rick Ross of Quarryville, will escort Lapp. He is the manager of the boys varsity soccer team and participates in job training working at Ferguson & Hassler SuperMarket. He is studying horticulture and plans to be a landscaper. Seana Armstrong, daughter of Sean and Laurie Armstrong of Peach Bottom. She is in the high school's gifted program, a member of the Spanish Honor Society, and is a Solanco scholar in chemistry and Spanish. She plans to pursue a pharmaceutical program at a university. Tim Delp, son of Jim and Melissa Delp of Kirkwood, will escort Armstrong. He is a member of Christians in Action, the Media Club, and helps run the blood drive. He plans to study structural engineering. Angela S. Fiorentino, daughter of Lori and Geroge Fiorentino of Holtwood. She plays volleyball, is on the swim team, has been named to the honor roll, and is a member of the Multimedia Club. She plans to become a marine veterinarian. Shane Belczyk, son of Kim Belczyk and Elmer Frey, lives in Quarryville and will escort Fiorentino. He participates in Christians in Action and Ophelia Day. He plans to attend college. Sarah Irwin, daughter of Bryan and Linda Irwin of Little Britain. She is a member of the National Art Honor Society, has been on the honor roll, and has participated in Ophelia Day. She designed the cover for this year's football program. She plans to attend college. Curtis Herr, son of Thomas and Karen Herr of Peach Bottom. He has played varsity basketball and varsity football. He plans to attend a two-year college to major in electrical work. Madison Lasko, daughter of Dr. Kevin and Stephanie Lasko of Peach Bottom. She is a cheerleader, a member of the LINK Crew, a Renaissance ambassador, and has participated in Ophelia Club. She plans to go to college and become a dentist. Joseph Pfender, son of Deborah and Mark Pfender of Drumore, will escort Lasko. He has played on the basketball team, been a member of the Student Senate, and works at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Carly Allport, daughter of Carl and Susan Allport of Quarryville. She has been a member of the flag squad, band, cross country team, basketball team, track team, and the yearbook staff. She is president of the junior class. She has been on the honor roll, been a member of the chorus, and assisted with Ophelia Day. She plans to pursue a four-year degree. Bo Spiller, son of Ed and Rose Spiller of Quarryville, will escort Allport. He has been a class representative, played football, wrestled, and been on the honor roll. He plans to play football and major in statistics in college. Cassie Twyman, daughter of Glenn and Missy Twyman of Nottingham. She has been in the spring musical, been a representative on the Student Senate, been a member of the Drama Club, and been a varsity cheerleader. She has also been a member of the varsity track team and a member of the honor roll. She plans to attend a four-year college. Tony Rambo, son of Sue and Randy Rambo of Quarryville, will escort Twyman. He plays on the varsity baseball team and plans to attend college, where he will major in business management. Abigail Yoder, daughter of Ken and Krystal Yoder of Kirkwood. She has been captain of the soccer team, is on the track team, is a member of the National Art Honors Society, and has been on the honor roll. She plans to attend college, where she will major in art or psychology. Taggart Hess, son of Brian and Jessica Hess of Peach Bottom, will escort Yoder. He plays baseball and has played football. He is a member of the LINK Crew, helps with Ophelia Day, and has been on the honor roll. He plans to attend college, where he intends to play baseball. Marah Grinestaff, daughter of Bill and Diana Grinestaff of Quarryville. She is a varsity cheerleader, has earned an academic excellence award in English, and is a member of the National Art Honor Society. She helps with Ophelia Day, received a silver award for visual arts in the Lancaster County Young Artists competition, and placed in the science fair. She plans to attend a four-year college. Robert Beard, son of Bob and Laura Beard of Quarryville, will escort Grinestaff. He has played football and baseball, served with the LINK Crew, and been vice president of his class for the past three years. He plans to attend a four-year college and then go to law school.
