An access drive built last month off Quarryville's Park Ave. leads to the latest expansion of a local retirement community's independent living community.
The drive, created just west of LEMSA's medic station on Park Ave., is at the site of 38 homes to be built on a semi-circular road.
While Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community has yet to secure building permits for the project, the borough's zoning hearing board approved the plan earlier this year. The retirement community has also submitted land development plans for the addition to the Great Rock independent housing unit.
The zoning hearing board's January approval for the 10.7-acre site will allow more homes to be built than originally planned. In 2008, the hearing board approved a plan for 30 individual cottages.
The new plan calls for duplex homes and 76 off-street parking spaces.
A retirement community spokesperson would not comment on construction plans, only saying a formal announcement would be coming shortly.
