A longtime Quarryville employee has been chosen to be the borough's next manager.
Scott Peiffer was appointed to the post by unanimous vote during the borough's public council meeting on Monday night, June 3.
He will take over the position on January 1, 2020. He will replace current borough manager Ken Work, who will retire effective December 31, 2019.
Peiffer began working part time for the borough as a teenager, mowing fields in the summer. He joined the borough staff full-time in 1980 and left in 1985 to found his own lawn care business.
After selling the business early in this century, he came back to the borough as a part-time employee. He was hired full time in 2011.
"I feel good about this," Peiffer said Monday night. "I have been taking training courses for this and learning from programs that are offered by the boroughs' association. While I understand public works and the grant process, I still have a lot to learn."
He has been an active volunteer in the community for years. He heads the Quarryville Teenage Club's annual Miss Solanco Scholarship Pageant and is the Solanco Fair Association's manager.
For the next six months, he will continue to work as a member of the borough's maintenance crew.
