Quarryville officials will ask the borough's zoning hearing board for permission to put a programmable LED sign near the entrance to Memorial Park, Park Ave. and S. Lime St.
If approved and erected, the sign would display events scheduled for that park as well as for Huffnagle Park and other community programs. It would not be used for business advertising or to promote events that are not community-oriented.
Members of American Legion Post 603, Quarryville, will pay for the sign and its installation. The cost is estimated at $22,000.
The sign would be used to replace the temporary signs frequently planted near the park entrance.
Organizers hope to have the new sign up and operational by early fall.
The zoning hearing board will hear the case at 7 p.m. on June 24 at borough hall, 300 St. Catherine St. The board will also hear a request by Andrea Grasso to use 3,000 square feet in the back of the Berkshire Hathaway building, W. 4th St., as a dance studio. Grasso has been operating a studio on Kirkwood Pike in Kirkwood.
The hearings are open to the public.
