Members of the congregation of Mt. Eden Evangelical Lutheran Church and their new pastor had eight months to get to know each other before he was officially installed.
The Rev. Donald Costlow came to the church on May Post Office Rd. last April as an interim pastor.
Thanks to a change in the Lutheran Synod's rules, he was also eligible to become the congregation's long-term pastor.
Mt. Eden Evangelical Lutheran Church held a blessing of the animals Saturday, October 4.
With help from a local club, the congregation of Mt. Eden Evangelical Lutheran Church will host their third annual pork dinner and car cruise on Saturday, June 14.
"The first year, we had a good turnout," organizer Marie Foose said. That time, the church planned for 100 dinners and ran out of pork.
Last year, the congregation tried a pig roast, and that did not attract as many people as the pulled pork dinner.
"I don't think we got the word out about that," Foose said. Now the congregation is going back to its 2012 menu and working to attract more people to the annual event.
A winter storm warning not withstanding, organizer Fred Williams was determined the local Wreaths Across America program would start on time.
It was to begin at noon at Mt. Eden Evangelical Lutheran Church with a moment of silence. Then there would be a short address, scripture from Pastor Traci Glover, reading the names of veterans buried in the church's cemetery, and a prayer.
The starting time assures ceremonies begin at the same time across the United States.
