Local churches, a dance school, and the Quarryville Fire Company will host the community's third annual Halloween Parade and celebration on Saturday, October 19.
For the second year, Memorial United Methodist Church will assist with the event. This year, Freedom Life will also help with the parade and the activities at the fire station.
"We will have walkers in the parade to help with the kids," said the Rev. Chris Eden, Memorial's pastor.
Freedom Life will provide face painting, cotton candy, and a DJ at the fire station, congregation member Ashley Kauffman said.
That church is participating to expand its community outreach, she said.
This will be the first year Andrea's Academy of Dance has participated, Ashley Mellasecca said.
"We love to do Halloween events," she said. "We've been doing the parade in Oxford and that got us interested in doing Quarryville. The girls love to perform."
Academy members will walk in the parade and then perform at the fire station.
The fire company will offer hay rides, hot dogs, and drinks at the fire station, auxiliary member Loie Swayne said. The volunteers will provide bags for children as they gather candy at the trunk-or-treat.
The firefighters will also have apparatus in the parade and on display at the station.
Last year, between 400 and 500 people participated in the parade.
The event is open to children age 12 and younger; children age six and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Family costumes are allowed.
Parking will be available at Quarryville Elementary School, the Solanco Administration Building, and Memorial United Methodist Church, all on S. Hess St.
Children will register at the school starting at 5:30 p.m. The parade will leave the school at 6 p.m., go south on Hess St. to State St., turn onto State St. and go to the fire station.
At the station, there will be food, trunk-or-treat, hayrides, face painting, and candy. When the celebration at the fire station ends, a shuttle bus will be available to take children and their parents back to the elementary school.
The parade and celebration will be held rain or shine.
