At last you can give your little princess the royal treatment.
Beginning mid-month, Cecil's Parks and Recreation Department will offer Princess Creative Activities. That program will give girls ages 2-6 a chance to act like princesses weekly from January 27-March 10 on Mondays from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the Cecil County Community Center, Wilson Road.
Danielle Hemling, Recreation Coordinator, said that the program has already garnered some interest and children have been enrolled. Another upcoming program for children 18 months to four years is Shake, Romp & Roll. For $42 for an eight-week program, children will experience music, movement, dance, tumbling, yoga, and more. This class runs Tuesdays January 14- March 4 from 10-10:45 a.m.
Other upcoming pre-school activities are Pre-ballet and dance for 3-4 year-olds which begins January 13. Pre-School sports academy flag football begins January 14.
For school-aged children, a Chinese Kenpo Karate program begins January 14. There are classes for both youths and adults.
Programs are also being held at local schools. A jump rope club and hip hop dance club will begin January 13 at Conowingo Elementary School. There are also new dance classes beginning January 13.
One of the hottest programs continues to be the middle school inter-murals programs. These programs are held after school at each of the county's six middle schools. They are led by school staff through a partnership between Parks and Recreation and the school system.
As of last week, Hemling said that 52 Rising Sun Middle School students had signed up for basketball. There are still openings for co-ed basketball at the other county middle schools.
Perryville Middle School will host both basketball and volleyball on alternating days. Another free, year round program is offered at North East Middle School from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Dave Racine and Mike Hickey provide free martial arts classes.
Lacrosse programs for school aged children are also starting. These programs are held at Cecil Arena and fill up fast. Early registration is encouraged. In addition to lacrosse, there are also ice hockey and wrestling programs being offered.
The fun isn't limited to children's and youth programs. Various adult leagues and drop-in play is being offered. Beginning January 15, a yoga program is being offered for adults. The program costs $42 and runs from January 15 through March 5.
Those who are thinking spring can warm up by planing a trip. The department will host a Cherry Blossom Festival Bus Trip on April 12 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. The trip will take passengers to Washington, D.C.
