For $20, you can back the blue.
The Rising Sun Police Department is selling t-shirts. Proceeds from these shirt sales will fund two causes.
Half of the proceeds will be added to the town's earmarked and budgeted $500 donation to Cecil County Shop with a Cop. That annual December project pairs children in need with police officers. They go shopping together as well as have a meal and the gifts are wrapped by volunteers.
The other half of the proceeds will help pay for the Rising Sun hosted police officer appreciation breakfast. This event was started two years ago by then town commissioner Jennifer Scully. Breakfast is served and small favors are provided to police officers who work in the county. That meal is served at no cost as a way to say thanks.
The shirts are pre-shrunk and are available in sizes small to XXL.
"The Town will donate to Shop with a Cop. So many kids are in need and benefit. This has a large impact on our officers," said Mayor Travis Marion. Shephard recused himself from the discussion because he serves on the Shop with a Cop committee.
All town board members, except for absent Commissioner Allen Authenreath, wore the shirts to last week's town meeting.
