After a year without fireworks, this year's Cecil County Salute to Veterans will mark the return of the rocket's red glare.
Charlestown is doing its part to bring it back. Officials in that town voted last week to donate $1,000 to the event. The North East fireworks also bring overflow to Charlestown.
Eugene Daley, president of the 501(c)3, announced recently that fireworks will be included for the Salute, which is set for July 3 in North East Town Park.
"A tradition for 18 years has been fireworks as a grand finale to Saluting Cecil County Veterans, and celebrating the birth of our country. So many families and children have come to love the event, at the North East Park, and they're back..."
Daley is also requesting donations of any size to support the event. Donations may be made by mail at Salute to Cecil County Veterans P.O. Box 413 North East, Md 21901-0413. Online donations may be made at www.stoccv.org.
The rain date for 2016 is August 6.
Daley, president of Salute to Cecil County Veterans, Inc. spent nine years serving in the U.S. Army. He took over leading the organization last year. He is a North East native and member of the North East VFW. He said he heard that the former Salute group was disbanding last year so he volunteered to lead the group, taking over in January 2015.
In lieu of fireworks for 2015, a laser light show, on a 30 by 40 foot screen was displayed in the park.
