As of Wednesday, August 17, dust was still flying at Cecilton Elementary School.
The roof replacement project, which started shortly after school dismissed for the summer in June, was continuing.
Head custodian Bill Lloyd, who is working indoors while contractors are tackling the roof replacement, stated that the roof work is multi-faceted. Asphalt shingles were being placed on the pitched portion of the roof. Rolled asphalt was applied to the flat roof portion. Additional masonry work was also being done.
Lloyd explained that the original part of the school was built in 1939. An addition and renovation was added in 1999. "The roof is done. They are just putting on the finishing touches," said Lloyd who has worked at the school for more than a dozen years.
He said that the project created additional dust in the school which was whisked away as part of the summer building overhaul and cleaning. Lloyd said he is ready for the first day of school. "I like it when the kids are here. It's nice to see them come back," said Lloyd.
