Bigger venue, more opportunities.
The annual Greater Rising Sun Chamber of Commerce Health Fair will be held in a new location this year.
Grace Bible Chapel, 1949 Biggs Highway, will be the site for the event which is set for Friday, October 18 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Dr. Joseph Weidner of Stone Run Family Medicine, brought the health fair concept to the chamber when it started. He is enthusiastic about the change in location. "We will have a lot more room (than at the former location, Rising Sun Banquet Hall). It will allow us to organize the vendors and demonstrations and make things more presentable," said Dr. Weidner.
He also said he doesn't believe that the out of town location will impact attendance since he said he never met anyone who walked to the event at the fire house.
There will be a variety of health screenings offered including backpack ergonomic assessments, breathing function, bone density, eye health, and hearing tests. Staff from Cecil County Parks and Recreation will set up "Safetyville". This event is for children to teach them safety in a fun and interactive way.
Some of the vendors who have signed on include ATI Physical Therapy, Basin Run Animal Hospital, Denton Spring Water, Doctors Gehris, Jordan, Day and Associates, Northern Chesapeake Hospice Foundation, Riverside Health of Maryland, Rising Sun Martial Arts, PNC Bank, Stone Run Family Medicine, West Cecil Health Center, Vision Associates, Walgreens, Wound Care Center, and Union Hospital.
The local vendors will also have giveaways, literature, and other information for those who attend this free event.
New healthcare legislation will also be addressed at the fair. A variety of participating businesses will provide information about healthcare insurance, health savings accounts, and more. Riverside Health representatives will talk about Medicaid benefits. PNC Bank and NBRS Financial officials will be on hand to review health savings account options.
Food will be available for purchase all day during the health fair.
