It's probably not a good day if volunteers from the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun are at your house.
But they promise a good time for all ages for those who come to their house on Saturday, October 5.
From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., the company will host an open house at Station 8, 300 Biggs Highway.
This event, which is held during Fire Prevention Month, is returning after a few years off, explained Sandy Scott, fire company member who is working to coordinate the activities.
One of the highlights of the day will be the fire house and apparatus tours. Scott said that to build awareness about the cost of things, a set of fire company gear will be laid out with the cost of each piece attached to it. "That's to make the public aware of the cost," said Scott.
Small children will enjoy visits with Sparky the fire mascot. Cecil County Department of Emergency Services will have dispatchers on scene so children can practice dialing 911.
There will also be a dunk tank, with fire company officers sitting in the wet seat. There will be a bounce house, blood pressure checks, and child safety seat checks.
This event is free. There will be a fill the boot where donations will be accepted but not required. Fire company members will serve hot dogs. Herr Foods donated chips.
Those who want to join the fire company, will also have a chance to ask questions about membership requirements. Applications will be available.
