Better late than never.
Members of the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun didn't host their annual carnival this summer. Instead, it will be held closer to autumn.
"It was moved back because we had to negotiate the contract with Houghton Enterprises," explained CFCRS secretary and auxiliary vice president Kris Batz.
The carnival runs September 16-20 with the rides opening at 6 p.m. each night. On weeknights the carnival closes at 10 p.m. Hours on Friday and Saturday nights will be extended. There will also be fireworks on Friday night. Discounted ride wristbands will be available everyday.
In addition to serving as a fundraiser for the fire company, local non profit groups will also host raffles during the carnival. Scout groups, the Rising Sun Lions Club, and the Beagle Club will all offer fundraisers and/or raffles.
The fire company will raffle off a $300 Cabela's gift card, a crab feast with Wolfman's Crabs, a fire pit and adirondack chairs, and a package of tech items. Most of the drawings for the winners will be held on the last night of the carnival. Fire company members will also sell gun raffle tickets for a raffle that will be held later. The CFCRS Ladies Auxiliary will have a drawing for a fireman's grandfather clock.
There will be food for sale including baked goods, pit beef, pit ham, and fried pickles. Nightly Bingo will be held during the carnival in the fire company pavilion at 300 Biggs Highway.
