"I knew she would do it."
That was the response from Rising Sun Elementary fifth grader Blake Flaugher on Friday afternoon, August 22.
Earlier that week, Flaugher sent an email to the school's principal, Cindy Fitzpatrick, asking her to complete the ALS Ice Bucket challenge. The challenge is designed to raise money and awareness for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Videos are then posted on social media and others are challenged.
Fitzpatrick responded to the email in the school's courtyard. She and assistant principal, Sherri Isaac, got soaked by Flaugher and fifth grader Dylan Ballas.
The administrators challenged Lisa Lowe and Becky Miller, administrators at North East Elementary. They also challenged fifth grade teachers at Rising Sun Elementary. Those staffers, Jessica Weaver, Leah Cox, Marie Berg, Diane Wasko, Kelsey Schuch, and Karen Whiteoak completed the challenge in front of a cheering group of fifth graders.
The fifth graders also participated in the videotaping and asked those who viewed the challenge to consider giving to the charity of their choice.
