Robert E. "Bob" Shallcross was honored for a half century of giving back to his community.
Shallcross, a member of the Rising Sun Lions Club, joined the organization 50 years ago. He was recognized for that milestone during a holiday party held at American Legion Post 194, Rising Sun.
"I was 10 years old when I joined," said Shallcross, as he received a standing ovation.
Lions from both the Rising Sun and Conowingo clubs were honored at the annual event.
Richard Moulton, a Rising Sun Lions member, was presented with the Melvin Jones Award by King Lion Harry Barnes. The late Melvin Jones is the founder of Lions Clubs International. The award is the highest honor presented to Lions members who demonstrate a dedication to humanitarian service. "He is always there to raise funds for those who need help," said Barnes of Moulton.
Mike Wilson, a Conowingo Lions member, collected the Melvin Jones Award from Conowingo Lions President Bernie Brown. Brown thanked Wilson for his dedication. He also pointed out that Wilson is so dedicated that he turned out for the Lions event on his wedding anniversary weekend.
Bud McFadden, a Rising Sun Lions member, was recognized for his recruiting skills.
During his time with the Lions, McFadden has brought in more than 25 new members.
