DFC Tom Groce and Sgt. Scott Adams will take their cars and buildings out of storage for a day for the annual Greater Rising Sun Chamber of Commerce Health Fair.
The pair, Cecil Sheriff's deputies and partners in the annual Safetyville program, will promote Safetyville, a two-week program designed to develop safety habits and awareness for young children, at the health fair which is set for Friday, October 17. The event will be held from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Grace Bible Chapel, 1949 Biggs Highway, Rising Sun.
"Safetyville is a great program and we will do anything we can to raise awareness about it," said the deputies.
The eighth annual fair is sponsored by the chamber in partnership with local businesses. There will be health information, screenings, and demonstrations.
At 9 a.m., Melissa High from the Cecil County Health Department will present a smoking cessation program. At 10:30 a.m., Dr. Gamal Saleh will discuss urinary incontinence. Dr. John B. Hynes will outline procedures for fixing abnormal heart rhythms at 11:30 a.m. Registered nurse Denise Simpers will discuss bariatric surgery at noon.
There will be demonstrations by Rising Sun Martial Arts students at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Hoppin' Hawks jump rope club will perform at 11 a.m. Sundance Studio performers will do demonstrations at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
The area public school children have the day off from classes that day. This event is for the whole family. There will also be an appearance by Rising Sun High School Tiger mascot.
