For those who have lost their ho, ho, ho, Principio United Methodist Church has a place for you to spent part of your holiday season.
The annual Blue Christmas Service will be held at the church, 1511 Principio Furnace Road, Perryville, at 6 p.m. on December 22. This Christian service is open to all denominations.
"People have said the service is very moving," said Principio UMC Reverend Cheryl Alston. This is the third year the church has hosted the event. "This is a place, an opportunity to come where grief is affirmed and recognized. The elderly may grieve days gone by when they were children. There are all kinds of reasons for this. It's a peaceful place where people have hope in their hearts but their grief is acknowledged," Rev. Alston said.
The service will include music, prayer, a message, and an opportunity to express your grief, if you wish to do so. There will be prayer for lost loved ones, during the candlelight event. There will also be a blue tree on which attendees can place a memory snowflake.
Rev. Alston said she specifically chooses the winter solstice, the longest night of the year, for this event.
