Your one stop holiday shop may be closer than you think.
On Saturday, November 28, Principio United Methodist Church will hold a holiday event designed to give you a break following all that stressful Black Friday shopping. The annual holiday fundraiser will run from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the church.
Barb Prescott, Lay Servant at Principio United Methodist, said the event has been held for five years and is ever-evolving. "We've had something every Christmas. This year, everybody wanted to do this in November and not wait until December because it's so hectic," said Prescott.
The preparations have been ongoing. Members of the Principio Homemakers group are contributing quilts. There will be some regular-sized quilts and numerous baby quilts available for purchase. There will also be other homemade items for purchase. There will also be inexpensive gifts such as small gifts, Christmas balls, and cups for sale. There will also be Christmas cactus, poinsettias, and Norfolk pines.
One of the highlights of the day is the soup.
As many as half a dozen varieties will be available by the quart to take home. You can also eat it at the church. It will be served with a sandwich, a drink, and chips. There will be a variety of baked goods for sale.
Prescott said that anther goal of the church membership is to get the church hall open for community events. This Christmas fundraiser is one way of meeting that goal.
All proceeds from this event will go into the church's general fund and will help fund building maintenance and repairs.
