PNC Bank in Rising Sun, East Main and Walnut streets, closed following a robbery Wednesday morning, January 20, at 11:09 a.m.
A sign posted on the front door advised customers to use the North East branch. The Cecil County Sheriff's Office is investigating the robbery.
The suspect is a female, approximately five feet tall, and possibly of Middle Eastern descent. She was wearing blue jeans, a purple jacket, and a tan colored head garment. She had dark hair and was carrying a tan-colored Coach purse.
Rising Sun police officers responded to the bank and it was confirmed that a robbery had occurred. Officers were advised that a suspect entered the bank and implied that she had a firearm in her possession while demanding money. She received an undisclosed amount of money and fled the store. The suspect was last seen traveling on foot northbound at the rear of the bank.
Rising Sun Middle School operated under a Code Yellow from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Interior doors are locked under the precautionary Code Yellow. Principal Rick Edwards said school activities were not impacted.
Rising Sun Elementary School was also under a Code Yellow. Parents of those students were also notified.
In addition to Rising Sun police and Sheriff's deputies, a CCSO K-9 unit and Maryland State Police Crime Lab personnel worked at the scene.
The Maryland Association for Bank Security is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the subjects responsible for this off
