UPDATE AUGUST 4: The State Fire Marshal's Office is continuing to investigate the blaze. which began in the kitchen. The estimated loss is $50,000 to the structure and $20,000 to the contents. The State Fire Marshal's Office says the two injured occupants who suffered smoke inhalation and were transported to Shock Trauma "will be released in a timely manner".
Two people, a man and a woman, were flown to to the hospital after they were injured in a fire at 9 McCummins Lane, Rising Sun. The fire was reported on Monday, August 3, just after 6:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire, in a four unit apartment building, remains under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
According to Community Fire Company of Rising Sun Fire Chief Matt Blakeley, about 50 firefighters from Rising Sun, Union of Oxford, Pa., and Water Witch of Port Deposit, worked at the scene. When firefighters arrived on scene, smoke was showing from all sides of the building.
Several pets perished in the fire. Animal Control was on location and some animals were rescued. County medics also worked at the scene. At least two people were displaced.
