Perryville's Autumn Fest keeps getting bigger.
Chamber of Commerce President Matt Roath announced last week that a Movie in the Park event has been added to the already packed schedule. Restore Church is the sponsor for the movie, "Madagascar 3", which will be shown in Lower Ferry Park (adjacent to Rodgers Tavern) on September 27 at about 6:30 p.m. Those who attend the movie are asked to bring chairs or blankets for sitting. Refreshments will be available at the carnival grounds.
"I am really excited this year and everyone else is too," said Roath. "It's been a rough go to get the town to allow us to do things. But it's great. Sometimes a rough go beats you down."
The movie is just the latest addition to the revamped Autumn Fest/Oktoberfest.
In mid-July, the chamber submitted plans for the bigger event. The changes include a four day carnival and a beer and wine garden held on the property adjacent to Lower Ferry Park, the area adjacent to Rodgers Tavern.
Autumn Fest will be held on Saturday, September 28 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The carnival will run from Wednesday, September 25 through Saturday. Roath said the carnival vendor, Stine Amusements, will provide "more and better rides" with the longer span.
The Beer and Wine Garden will be held on the property which was formerly the Rendezvous parking lot. Roath explained that this plan includes responsible consumption of upscale craft beers, micro-brews, and more. The Beer and Wine Garden would be open Friday night and during Saturday's Autumn Fest. Prost German Restaurant has signed on as a partner. They will provide German style beer and wine, food, entertainment, and decorations.
The goal of the expanded Autumn Fest is to draw more people to Perryville as well as not compete with events held in other towns in October. There is also hopes that additional funds will be raised which will allow for more parade performers to come to the town. "We believe these additions will draw a much larger crowd and allow our vendors more opportunity to benefit from the event," said Roath.
Vendor spaces may be reserved until September 25. Cost for food vendors is $100 for a 10 by 10 space. Artisan/Business spaces are $50. Home crafters/Hobbyists/Non Profit groups pay $25.
