The summer of 2015 was both busy and memorable for Corporal Stephen Yates.
Yates, who has worked as a police officer for the Town of North East for a dozen years, helped with a number of events this year, including the Bassmaster Elite tournament, Cecil's first ever laser light show for the July Salute to Veterans, car shows, a triathlon, and more
The officer said he likes the busy season. "We have a lot more foot traffic in town from April through December. After (Labor Day) the vehicle traffic slows down. And we have quite a bit of boats," said Yates.
"In summer here, there is always something going on. I miss it once it's gone," said Yates. Pretty soon, it will be October and I have to wear a long sleeve shirt and a coat."
He also said that people need to be mindful that school is in session. That means that drivers need to slow down and watch for pedestrians. "We have two crossing guards for North East Elementary and we do traffic detail at North East Middle every day," said Yates.
