George Walker, Bernie Chiominto, Lyn Dugger, Charlie Berkowich, Joe Shephard.
You may now add the name Brian Leishear to the list of Rising Sun town commissioners who have called it quits during their term.
In a letter dated November 14 and addressed to Mayor Travis Marion, Leishear wrote "It's been a long and difficult decision, but I feel it is time that I tender my resignation as Commissioner, effective 11/20/16. I understand that my term is set to run until 2019, but due to personal health reasons and career, I can no longer give the position the attention it deserves. It is time for me to step down."
Leishear and Shephard were both elected in October 2015, and were sworn in last November.
This week, Shephard's replacement will be sworn in. Augie Pierson, who formerly served on the board has been tapped by Mayor Marion to fill the vacancy left by Shephard, who resigned effective October 1.
Shephard was the top vote getter in the October 19, 2015 town election.
Mayor Marion said he now plans to move forward to fill the vacancy left by Leishear, who was the town's water and sewer commissioner. "It was through his tireless efforts that we finished the water deal with Chester Water. I am sad to see him go and wish all the best to him and his family," said Marion.
He also said that he is recruiting someone to fill Leishear's three-year term. Anyone interested in serving on the board is asked to call town hall and leave their name or email the mayor through the town website, rsmd.org.
