One year after they saved his life, Wayne Good got a chance to say thank you.
A ceremony was held at Cecil County Dragway July 4th weekend to honor those first responders who worked diligently to revive Good.
Good had a medical emergency and collapsed at the track on July 4, 2015.
Due to quick thinking first responders, a year later he was back at the track to give thanks.
Jennie Brockell and Peter Koenig, Sr. were the first to reach Good. Their efforts and the efforts of others - 17 people in total, were credited with saving his life.
"It's an indescribable feeling to know you gave someone more time with their family. We gave him the gift of time," said Brockell. "This is not something you can put into words."
Brockell is a member of both the Cecilton and Chesapeake City fire companies.
"They're all just wonderful. This is amazing. Now I'm just living my life and still going to the drag strip," said Good.
Dianne Good has been married to Wayne for 49 years and they have two children. "How do you start to thank somebody that saved a person's life? It's a very special person that does this work. I am thankful he is here," she said. "They are the only reason why he is still here."
Koenig is credited with the life saving CPR. Good pinned a life saver's pin on Koenig at the ceremony. Both men were emotional.
Good, who lives in Lincoln University, Pa., is a member of the pit crew for his son's hot rod. Koenig, and Jennie Brockell were the first to reach Good. Koenig performed CPR and Good was defibrillated three times and 911 was called. Personnel from North East Fire Company and the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun and multiple county medic units responded.
Good was taken to Christiana Care Center and had a five-way heart bypass surgery.
The following were honored by Cecil County Dragway, North East Fire Company, and Urgent Ambulance, which is the drag strip contractor for emergency medical services: Peter Koenig, Sr., Jennie Brockell, Krysta Brockell, John Rea, Amanda Laird, Andrew Himmer, James Brady, Tyler Adams, David Simmons, Jacob Ware, Rachel Obitz, Andrew Budzialek, Brooke Sawyers, Jeffrey Hennemuth, Charlene Hennemuth, Andrew Cragg, and Zachary Barr.
