While the economy lagged in other areas in 2013, Mary Jo Jablonski, executive director of Elkton's Chamber/Alliance, said it was a good year in downtown.
"It was a fantastic year," said Jablonski. She said that all of the chamber/alliance events - from car shows to Music on Main to Fall Fest - were very well attended.
New businesses opened , relocated, or set plans to open early in 2014.
Cozy Corner Cafe and Confections will open at the former Brother's Pizza at West Main and Howard streets. That business should open by the end of January.
"We're glad to have a bakery back," said Jablonski.
Belle Connell's Emporium relocated within the downtown. Coventry Country Crafts and Age to Age Antiques opened for business in the downtown at the former Main Street Bagel. Downtown Nutrition open on North Street.
Hurricane Grille and Wings opened on the Route 40 corridor at the Village of Elkton. In downtown, the former Howard House was converted to Minihane's Irish Pub.
While Jablonski is thrilled with what the year brought, she hopes for more. She said the downtown needs a few more small, speciality shops and hopefully, a small grocery store.
