The Cecil County Holly Tree Corporation wants your help.
Volunteers are needed to help decorate the tree and assist with holiday events.
It all starts Saturday, November 2 at 10 a.m. when volunteers will gather to begin the process of decorating.
"It's a lot of fun," said Trish Sexton of the Cecil County Holly Tree Corporation. Volunteers are provided with hot chocolate and donuts in the morning and pizza and soda for lunch.
Members of The Tome School's Key Club are expected to attend and everyone is invited.
"It's a good way for students to get their service learning hours," Sexton said.
"It's also a good way to keep the tradition alive. We'd like to see young people involved."
The raindate is Saturday, November 9.
Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, wire snips, and/or pliers.
The Holly Tree is located on Holly Tree Lane in Perryville, off of Jackson Station Road.
Decorating the tree typically takes two full days, Sexton said.
On the second day, Michael Morgan and other volunteers use his bucket truck to apply the finishing touches. Morgan then maintains the tree before and after the lighting ceremony.
"It's not a small undertaking but we really love it," said Sexton. "We'd like to have folks pitch in and give us a hand when we need it."
The lighting ceremony will be held Saturday, December 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. and will feature a performance by the Perryville High School band.
The Cecil County Holly Tree Corporation is looking for people to perform Christmas music onstage at the lighting ceremony. Anyone is welcome, Sexton said. "If you want to sing we'd love to have you contact us," she said.
The Holly Tree will welcome a special visitor on Saturday, December 14 from 5-8 p.m. as Santa Claus makes his annual appearance. Ol' Saint Nick will hand out presents and treats and pose with children for free pictures.
"We're focusing on Santa Night," Sexton said. Ray of Hope will have toys, hats, and coats available for children in need.
The Holly Tree corporation has 2-3 feet tall seedlings of the original Holly Tree available for a $10 donation.
Video Lottery Terminal grant money has helped Holly Tree events continue in the past, but donations are still needed. "It's all driven by public contributions," Sexton said.
