Firefighters are currently on scene at Rising Sun Middle School, 289 Pearl Street, investigating an unusual odor coming from the school's HVAC system.
Rising Sun, Union of Oxford, Pa., and Water Witch of Port Deposit firefighters were called shortly after 7 a.m. today, Friday, October 14, said Dr. Stuart Hutchinson, the school's principal.
The arrival of fire apparatus coincided with the students getting to the school. Students remained on the buses which were parked along Pearl Street. Students who walk or are driven to school were assigned to wait in a parking lot, overseen by staff.
R.J. Gerace was command for Community Fire Company of Rising Sun. He said the fire company was on scene to investigate an unusual odor. "The odor is consistent with heating or cooling issues," said Gerace.
There are 652 students enrolled at the school. Dr. Tomlinson said teachers and students handled the "surprise" of having fire engines at the school well. No one was injured.
