Most years, Anne Fazio is working the lineup for Cecil County's annual Christmas Parade, making sure marching bands and floats get where they need to go.
For the 2015 parade, she'll have a place of honor. Recently, North East Mayor Robert McKnight announced that Fazio will be the Grand Marshal for this year's parade.
"Mayor McKnight selected her and she's very excited," said Town of North East administrator Melissa Cook-MacKenzie.
Fazio has been involved with the parade for many years. She was a long time committee member and was chair of the parade when she retired from her job as North East's town clerk in October 2014. She remained in command of the parade even though she retired from her job.
Fazio worked for the town as the clerk/treasurer from 1990 through 2014. The town grew significantly during her time there. When she left, the annual budget had grown to nearly $6 million annually. In addition to her duties as clerk/treasurer she has also been active with many other events and committees.
She has served on the March of Dimes committee for years and chaired that event. She represented the town with the North East Chamber of Commerce, coordinated the annual auction for the Yesterdays celebration, served on the Cecil County Tourism Committee, organized the town Halloween party, and Christmas tree lighting, chaired the Cecil County Christmas Parade, oversaw the town appreciation dinner, Flag Day, and Cecil County Salute to Veterans.
There is still time to sign on as a participant in the parade, which is set for Saturday, December 5 at noon in downtown North East.
Antique cars, bands, businesses, churches, emergency services, clubs, and youth groups are needed to participate in the parade. For more information regarding participating go to the Town of North East website or call 410-287-5801.
