Downtown Elkton's annual Fall Fest will have a healthier focus and a whole new sound for 2013.
A family fun and fitness challenge and new vocal competition will be highlights of the event which is set for Saturday, September 21 from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Fest festivities will kick off the night before.
Food vendors will set up shop in the area of North and Main streets from 5-9 p.m. The Jersey Jukebox will perform from 6-9 p.m.
Saturday events begin with the kick off of the Family Fun and Fitness Challenge at the corner of Howard and Bow streets. At 9 a.m. vendors open and kids challenges begin. From 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. there will be a Crossfit class demonstration. From 11 a.m. until noon "The Success Course for Keeping A+ Grades" for children ages 4-6 will be held.
From noon until 1 p.m. "The Success Course for Keeping A+ Grades" for children ages 7-13 will be held.
From 1-3:30 p.m. there
will be a team sports challenge featuring lacrosse, flag football, and a homerun derby. From 3:30-5 p.m., Ready, Set, Grill, Eat will be held. Area grill masters will be paired up with children. The teams will receive a mystery basket containing locally grown ingredients.
"We've shifted from Idol to The Voice. This adds a new spin to things," said Elkton Main Street Manager Mary Jo Jablonski. Adam and Blake are not expected to attend but, The Voice of Elkton contest will be held from 2:30-4:30 p.m. This singing competition has replaced the former Elkton Idol event. The first 15 applicants will be accepted. The entry fee is $15 per person. The winner will take home a $200 grand prize and also have bragging rights for being Elkton's first Voice winner.
