Elkton's town hall already contains the police department, town offices, and a public meeting area.
Now, the building also contains an art gallery.
The gallery, a complement to the town museum, will feature mainly the works of children. Codee Watson, Recreation Coordinator for the Town of Elkton, said that the gallery was born out of necessity. Watson and other parks and recreation staffers host an Amazing Artists class for young children.
They created the gallery as a way to spotlight those colorful works of art.
"It's also a way to bring awareness to our parks and recreation programs," said Watson. "It brightens up town hall, spotlights our programs, and makes the artists feel great."
The first display went up within the past few weeks. The works will be rotated.
The artists, most recently between ages one and five, were made aware that their creations are now on display. "They know and they are excited," said Watson.
"We will have works from older kids when camp starts."
There will be more works of art created this summer when Elkton Parks and Rec. hosts the summer camp programs. Each week of the camps, which begin after school is out for the summer, has a different theme. There is also a weekly field trip.
