The July 4 Fireworks Extravaganza in Elkton was rescheduled due to extremely wet conditions in Meadow Park.
That meant disappointment for a lot of people, said Michelle Henson, Administration Office Secretary for the Town of Elkton
Now, the fireworks will be held on Friday, September 18 as part of the kick-off celebration for Elkton's annual Fall Fest. That Friday night kick-off typically brings a number of people to the downtown to hear music and get food from vendors. Henson said the fireworks will now mean that people have two reasons to celebrate.
At dusk, the fireworks show will begin in Meadow Park. Henson said that as yet, it has not been decided if there will be vendors in Meadow Park as was planned for July 4.
And while the ground is wet, the town did not get soaked with a cancellation charge. Henson said the town was not charged a five percent cancellation fee by the fireworks company.
"It will be odd having fireworks in September but we want to give people a great reason to stay downtown during Fall Fest. We will continue the party atmosphere in Meadow Park," added Henson.
