Those who made the ultimate sacrifice will be honored in southern Cecil in time for Memorial Day.
If volunteers step forward to make that happen.
In preparation for May 30 Memorial Day ceremonies where legion members pay tribute at area cemeteries, volunteers are needed to place flags on the graves of veterans.
Kim Roland, secretary for the auxiliary of VFW Post 7687, said that Honor Guard members from the post will turn out at about a dozen cemeteries on May 30 for a brief ceremony and playing of taps.
The cemeteries where flags need to be placed include St. Stephen's, St. Paul's, Union Bethel of Cecilton, Zion of Cecilton, two locations in Warwick, St. Augustine and Bethel cemeteries, St. Rose of Lima, and two more South Chesapeake City sites.
Ideally, Thursday, May 26 and Friday, May 27, groups are needed to place the flags. VFW Post 7687 coordinates this event. Anyone who is able to help is asked to contact the post at 410-885-5217. Community groups and organizations and groups of children such as scouts or homeschoolers, could easily perform this task.
