It's not Independence Day, but Cecilton town officials are lighting the night up anyway.
For the second year, the town is sponsoring fireworks which will occur one night of the annual Cecilton Fire Company carnival.
The fireworks show is set for Friday, August 19. The rain date will be the following day. The fireworks time will be between 9-9:30 p.m. The best viewing will be on the east side of town near the carnival grounds or in the nearby parking area. Those attending are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs for viewing.
Cecilton town clerk Kim Roland said the fireworks will likely be well attended. The usual Sassafras July 4 fireworks were cancelled this year.
"Everybody from as far away as Middletown will come to see them," said Roland.
In other business from the Town of Cecilton:
• Cecilton's annual fire company parade will be held on August 17.
• The Pearce Creek water line project is progressing.
• Before the recent heat wave, Cecilton town staff called all of the town's seniors, homebound and disabled residents to make them aware that severe weather was on its way. They followed up with a second call to check well being on July 27.
