Leonardo DaVinci would be proud of the Cecilton Tigers.
The Tigers, the school's Destination Imagination Team, competed at the DI Regional Tournament in Harford County in March. The team won a special award, The DaVinci Award. They received the award for outstanding creativity in their Instant Challenge. That award is given for having a unique approach to a solution, risk taking, and/or outstanding performance. Cecilton was selected for this award from the 60 teams which competed. The team members are from elementary through high school age. Team members Kelsey Meis, Willow Rothwell, Leif Schaumann, Ellis Walker, and Russell Zicafoose were coached by Art teacher Amanda Krebs.
Rothwell explained what she gained through the Destination Imagination experience. "I got to know a lot of my friends. It takes compatibility to succeed in a lot of things," she said.
Walker said that a group can do more than individual. "I learned by all working together you can accomplish more than working by yourself," said Walker.
Meis said she enjoyed being part of the DI team. "It was a lot of fun, making the story and working with my friends."
Schaumann liked tapping into his hidden talent. "I really liked going to the tournament. Creativity is really important," said Schaumann.
