When the Rising Sun Bigfoots opens on or about July 1, Milt McAllister, Sr. will be dealing with something new for him - staffing two stores.
"We're going full speed ahead," said McAllister.
McAllister and most of the staff from the store which burned nearly 10 months ago are busy working at the Bigfoots Express in Oxford, Pa. Now they have to shift their focus to another new location in Rising Sun. "The target date to open is right about July 1. If things go right, the third week of June but I'm saying July 1," McAllister said.
The new building is not the same old 100-year-old Bigfoots, the entrance has been shifted to the side of the building.
The building is also set back from the road.
Crews from McQuitty Construction have been on site for months working to rebuild the store. Bigfoots on West Main Street was destroyed by fire June 7, 2015, in what grew to a three alarm fire. In October, they opened Bigfoots Express in Oxford.
"It's doing good here and it's going to grow. We get a lot of compliments. Everybody on our staff came back. The Rising Sun people made this business (in Oxford) and helped get this off the ground. The American Legion and other business down there have called (with orders). They supported us enough that we've been able to bring back all the employees and keep people working," said McAllister. "It was scary opening up here but it's been good."
And he's excited to be back in Rising Sun.
"Besides January, July is the slowest month because so many people are away. July is a good time to open because it's a slow month. I'm sure when we open it will be crazy," said McAllister.
