by Bud Hart Two Solanco track and field members will represent the Golden Mules at the P.I.A.A. championships this weekend following great performances at the District III competition. Junior and first year thrower Anna Cooney placed fourth in the District III competition by launching the shot put 38’5”. “She has an excellent chance of doing well at states,” said head coach Ivan Haines.
Freshman Alana Yoder placed second in the 800-meter run at the District competition and will compete on Friday at the state contest. “She ran a smart race staying close to the leaders and managed to kick at the last turn to place second,” said Haines. Yoder lost to another freshman, Taryn Parks, from Greencastle-Antrim who finished at the 2:13 mark. Yoder crossed the line in the time of 2:15.68. Junior Dylan Sheaffer missed traveling to states with his teammates by .75-inch. He threw the shot 47’2”. “Dylan will be back next year ready to throw in both Districts and States,” added Haines. Senior, and three time District III qualifier Jen Eberly missed out on a state appearance, but was highly praised by her coach. “Jen has had a great career in girls’ track at Solanco as both a hurdler and jumper,” said Haines. “We will miss her leadership and commitment to the program. We could always depend on her.” Haines said that senior Robbie McHugh had a rough day. “This is only Robbie’s second year jumping,” said Haines. “He is not accustomed to starting at the higher heights and was not able to clear the opening heights. He has had two great years jumping.” The P.I.A.A. championships will be held at Shippensburg University’s Seth Grove Stadium this weekend. Comments are closed.
