Solanco's Thomas Haines pinned his way to the 285-pound title at Escape the Rock wrestling tournament. After receiving a first round bye, the undefeated three-time state champion pinned Jim Galasso of Father Judge in the second round and Kevin Saucedo of Forest Park in the quarterfinals. Haines pinned Shaheed Hill of Norristown in the semifinals and then needed 1:15 to pin Jacob Pinkston of J.W. Robinson in the championship match for a fourth Escape the Rock championship.
Connor Sheehan (106) and Bo Spiller (215) each finished third. Sheehan got a first round bye before winning a 12-6 decision over Paulsboro's Nick Duca. In the quarterfinals, Sheehan scored a sudden victory triumph over Zachary Sherman of Blair Academy. He lost 3-1 to Northampton's Dan Moran in the semis before winning consecutive consolation decisions over John Pipa of Bishop McDevitt and Kordell Rush of Pennridge to place third. Spiller also had a first round bye. He scored a 23-6 tech fall over John Hill of the Hill School in the second round and pinned Neil Putnam of Blair Academy in the quarterfinals. In the semis Spiller lost 2-1 in a tiebreaker to Omar Haddad of Parkland. He rebounded with falls over Sam Reid of Central and another pin of Putnam in the third place bout. Wyatt Jennings (126) finished seventh. Jennings pinned Jacob Martinez of Colonial Forge in the opening round. He was pinned by Benn Ross of Pennridge in the second round. After recording two wins, Jennings was pinned by Sam Morina of Paulsboro and then won the seventh place match with a fall over Dan Martoccio of Council Rock South. The other Solanco wrestlers: Taylor Morrison (113) was 2-2. Alec Proffitt (120) was 1-2. Joey Davis (132) was 2-2. Kody Hart (138) was 2-2. Dalton Groff (145) was 3-2. Karson Beane (152) was 2-2. Hunter Smith (160) was 0-2. Pat Woods (170) was 0-2. Shane DeVoe (182) was 0-2. Josh Boettcher (195) was 0-2. The Mules were fifth in the challenging 32-team tournament. Blair Academy (N.J.) (277.5) captured the team title followed by Bethlehem Catholic (197.5), Parkland (171), J.W. Robinson (152.5), and Solanco (135). The Mules split a pair of dual meets during the week. Solanco downed Manheim Township 39-31 last Wednesday. The Mules won six of the last seven matches. Groff won by fall for the only Mules victory in the first seven bouts. Spiller won by tech fall in his return from injury to start Solanco's surge. Haines, Sheehan, Morrison, and Proffitt each posted a pin and Jennings captured a major decision. Hempfield handed Solanco a 40-39 defeat Monday, January 13. Hempfield captured the final five matches – including four pins and a major decision – to record a comeback win. Haines received a forfeit.
