Solanco's Bo Spiller remained undefeated by winning the heavyweight title at the Escape the Rock wrestling tournament Sunday at Council Rock High. In the championship bout, Spiller won a 10-2 major decision over Kostya Golobokov of The Hill School. After receiving an opening round bye, the Solanco senior pinned Kyle DeGrave of Musselman, topped Bryce Hanley of Central Mountain by tech fall, and downed Cumberland Valley's Jackson Stanford by a 21-7 major decision. Wyatt Jennings (132) was the only other Mule to place. He finished eighth after stringing together three straight consolation wins after suffering a second round loss. Solanco 38, Penn Manor 37 The Solanco is a win away from clinching the Section One title. The Mules pulled out a win over visiting Penn Manor last Tuesday. The match ended in a 37-37 tie and was decided by criteria 'h' with Solanco prevailing because they scored first in the most matches. "It was a great match," Solanco coach John Little said. "We were not expected to be in the hunt for a section title and now we are on the doorstep with one match to go against Warwick (Wednesday, January 21). The team is unique in a number of ways, the one big way is they do not question bumping up to wrestle a larger or better opponent and they go out with the expectation to win." The Comets jumped out to a 12-0 lead on a pin and a forfeit before the Mules' Bo Spiller (285) triumphed by fall. Penn Manor won by decision at 106 and then Solanco's Taylor Morrison (113) prevailed by pin to cut the deficit to 18-12. The Comets triumphed by decision at 120 before the Mules' AJ Wilson (126) and Wyatt Jennings (132) each won by fall to give the hosts a 24-21 edge and start a string of five straight victories. Kody Hart (138) won by decision, Dalton Groff (145) scored a fall, and Ben Root (152) won a major decision to extend Solanco's lead to a 37-18 cushion with three bouts left. Penn Manor tied it by getting a pin at 160, a forfeit at 170, and a major decision at 182. The win raised Solanco's record to 5-0 in dual meets, but the Mules will not be participating in the district team tournament because they only have six duals scheduled instead of the required eight. Little said the district changed the minimum number of dual meets required from six to eight after Solanco had already completed its scheduling. Comments are closed.
