Solanco's boys and girls track and field teams will be judging this season's success on the athletes' individual goals, coach Ivan Haines said.
"Both teams had athletes from last year who earned points for us, who decided not to come out," Haines said. "Both teams will need to gain experience and develop their talents."
The boys squad (3-4 last year) features a group of talented juniors and sophomores. "We have a large group of juniors who were point earners for us last year," Haines said. "They will need to start where they ended last year and steadily improve throughout the season. There are many individuals who could be real standouts depending on how well they work."
Athletes to watch: Dom Messano and Mike Grech (jumps), and Will Paredes-Jimenez and Colin Althoff (sprints).
The girls team (3-4 in 2018) is low in numbers and inexperienced. Athletes to watch: Troyanna Miller (throws), Aleksa Burger (jumps and sprints), Aubree Roop (distance), and Peyton Jennings and Nathaly Molinarez (throws).
"We have many new and young girls out this season," Haines said. "These girls have the talent to be developed into good athletes and as the season progresses we look forward to what they will accomplish. We have girls trying different events in an attempt to fill in where we are weak."
Solanco hosts Manheim Central Monday, March 25.
