The Solanco JV boys basketball team lost two games to Section One foes last week. Penn Manor downed the Mules 45-35 Friday. Ethan Cairns contributed eight points to pace Solanco. Keith Carnrike added seven. Troy Berry and Cole Boxleitner each provided four. Kenton Frank, Colin Kilgore, Noah McCardell, and Dawson Gote each scored two points. Penn Manor led 23-14 at halftime. "In the second half we made some defensive adjustments," Solanco coach Chad McDowell said. "Penn Manor had two players who had most of their points so we employed a triangle and two defense and really confused them. “With some great defensive pressure we were able to get back into the game and tied the game up at 35 late in the fourth quarter. After committing two consecutive turnovers, we were forced to foul and Penn Manor converted their free throws. We had several mental lapses at various stages throughout the entire game and we did not take care of the basketball like we should have. These are areas we need to continue to improve upon. Even with those miscues we were right there and had a chance in the fourth quarter. Once again it was another great effort by everyone but we came up just a little short."
The Mules suffered a 40-37 setback to Warwick. Troy Berry and Taylor Dombach each tallied 10 points. Cody Bleacher added six points and Carnrike chipped in five. Frank, Kyle Munro, and McCardell each notched two points. "It was a very competitive game," McDowell said. "Both teams exchanged baskets throughout most of the game. The game came down to the final 30 seconds. After Warwick took a two-point lead very late in the fourth quarter, we were forced to foul to save time and stop the clock. Warwick was able to make a few foul shots in the final 30 seconds and was up three with eight seconds remaining." Solanco was able to get a chance on a potential game-tying three pointer but Berry's shot rimmed out. "I thought when it left his hand it was in and we were heading to overtime," said McDowell. "He had a good look. Some nights you get the bounces, other nights you don't. That night it just didn't bounce our way. However, we gave ourselves the opportunity and we put ourselves in a position to tie the game. I thought we played a great game against a quality section one team. Everyone demonstrated great effort and teamwork." Comments are closed.
