The Solanco Junior High boys and girls track and field teams both defeated visiting Cocalico in the last dual meet of the season to finish with a 5-2 record. Katie Urbine and Taivon Murphy each established a school junior high record.
Urbine ran the 200 meter dash in 27.1 to top the mark set by current varsity standout Alana Yoder. Murphy set a record in the high jump by clearing 5-10. The Solanco boys prevailed 74.5-21.5. Murphy won the high jump and long jump. Sammy Algarin, Hunter Phillips, Dilyn Kemp, and Graydon Schlagnhaufer teamed to take the 4 x 800 relay. Ian Althoff, Michael Allen, Tyler Kendall, and Murphy prevailed in the 4 x 400 relay. Wyatt Tomison, Kemp, Curtis Fuller, and Garvin won the 4 x 400 relay. The girls triumphed 76-20. Arianna Seiberlich (100), Daria Neaves (1600), Meg Bailey (400), Kara Peace (800), Urbine (200), Sophia Stoltzfus (high jump), Maya Torres (shot put), and Marissa Cannizzarro (discus) each captured an individual event. Zoey DellaVecchia, Christina Wagner, Olivia Singleton, and Hannah Landis won the 4 x 800 relay. Addison O'Donnell, Abby Esposito, Kristen Eckman, and Ella Hauer combined to capture the 4 x 400 relay. "We knew going into this meet we would be resting some of our athletes due to the L-S Relays two days after the meet," Mules coach Jennifer McDowell said. "With Cocalico typically strong in throws, we knew that we would have to beat them on the track. We relied on several athletes to step up and take the lead in many races and they really pulled through and took places that I didn't expect." The league meet will be held May 9. Comments are closed.
