The Solanco golf team is tied for second in the Section Two standings after three of the seven section tournaments. Cocalico (16-2) is first followed by Manheim Central and the Mules (both 12-6), Elizabethtown and Lampeter-Strasburg (both 10-8), Garden Spot (3-15), and Lebanon (0-18). The next Section Two tournament is Wednesday, August 27 at Hawk Valley. Cocalico hosted the Thursday, August 21 tournament at Foxchase and won the tournament.
The hosts have finished first in all three of the section tournaments so far. Cocalico (331) defeated Elizabethtown (333), Solanco (339), Manheim Central (356), Garden Spot (388) and Lebanon (455). Elizabethtown's Ned Baumbach led all golfers with a 73. Jimmy Howell paced Solanco with a two-over par round of 74 that included birdies on the 12th and 17th holes. Ethan Cairns shot an 83 followed by Brock Lasko (90), Ethan McCardell (92), Brady Frampton (106) and Wyatt Teaman (107). "It was good to see Jimmy come through with a good round and Brock rebounded with his best score of the year to count in the scoring," coach Greg Minnich said. "All we need is to improve a little bit as the scoring was very close again, a few strokes here and there are the difference between first and fourth. Cocalico has established themselves as the team to beat and we will have to play our best over the next month to catch them." On Tuesday, August 19, host Manheim Central prevailed at Iron Valley Golf Course. The Barons (342) topped Cocalico (355), Lampeter-Strasburg (357), Solanco (361), Elizabethtown (365), Garden Spot (450), and Lebanon (492). Manheim Central's Haley Goodling shot an even-par 72 for the best round of the day. Cairns carded five birdies and an eagle in his round of 77. Howell had an 83 followed by McCardell (93), Teaman (108), Lasko (112), and Frampton (126). "Our inexperience showed but I believe our younger players will continue to improve as the season goes on," Minnich said. "Iron Valley is a difficult course and the greens were running slower than what the guys were used to playing on. Manheim played well and deserved the win but the second through fifth positions were close as there were only 10 strokes separating those spots." Comments are closed.
