The Solanco girls soccer team ended its home schedule on a positive note, downing Lebanon 4-2. "It was an emotional night as the seniors were honored during their final home game," said coach Ken Yoder. Molly Briggs, Rauna Curry-Saner, Taylor Fabian, Alexis Garnica, Emily Hobbs, and Katie Kreider each played their last home game. "It was great to get a win for the seniors during their last home game," said Yoder. After numerous early chances for Solanco, freshman Courtney Myers opened the scoring in the 31st minute. A minute later, Lebanon answered right back with the goal by Madison Hartman.
"Hartman was their best player," Yoder said. "We had Jen Eberly marking her the whole game. She did a great job shutting her down." Rauna Curry-Saner scored in the 45th minute to put Solanco up 2–1. "It was a great effort by Rauna," said Yoder. "She cut the ball back on her right foot and buried the shot to the far post. It was great to see her score in her final home game." Freshman Grace Kreider scored in the 68 minute and Myers added her second goal of the night in the 74th minute. "It is really nice to see freshman stepping up and playing significant roles on the team this year," Yoder said. "All of our freshman are very good. I believe the future looks brighter for the girls soccer program." The Mules lost 7-0 to host Manheim Central last Wednesday in the final game of the year. "They are a great team," Yoder said. "We were simply outmatched. It was tough to end the season with a loss." Solanco finished with a record of 3-14. "I was very proud of the girls and the way that they never gave up," Yoder said. "We have some freshman and other underclassmen that played a lot of minutes this year and I am hoping that experience will help us build for the future." Fabian led the Mules with five goals. Myers and Rauna Curry-Saner (team-high four assists) each had four goals. Comments are closed.
