New Solanco girls soccer coach Ken Yoder has two major goals. He is focusing on building the program and wants his team to enjoy playing soccer. "We're going to build from the ground up," Yoder said. "We have an all new coaching staff including high school and junior high. We're going back to basics. I think we have the philosophy where the girls can have fun and we can help get them to the next level." Solanco has experience in goal with returning starter Emily Hobbs. "We'll be relaying on Emily," said Yoder. "She's done a great job the past four years." The coach says the experienced defense will be one of the team's strengths with seniors Molly Briggs, Alexis Garnica, junior Jen Eberly, and senior Katie Kreider. The Mules also have good depth on defense with freshman Rachel McLaren and sophomore Sydney Hassler. Sarah Sweda could contribute on defense or in the midfield. Senior Taylor Fabian will play in the center and anchor the midfield. Yoder said Fabian and promising freshman Grace Kreider will be a good combination in the middle of the field. Freshman Reece Curry-Saner, sophomore Tori Delp, and junior Elaina Daly will play on the outside. Four players will contribute at forward – junior Gia Cannizzaro, senior Rauna Curry-Saner, freshman Courtney Myers, and sophomore Jami Murtha. The Mules won just two games last season. Yoder hopes to build the program into a league contender, but knows that won't happen overnight. "Realistically, our goal is to increase our win total and build up the program as a whole," he said. The coach likes what he's seen from his players so far. "It's been an awesome beginning to the preseason," Yoder said. "The girls have been working extremely hard. We want them to have fun playing soccer again. It's been a rough couple of years. We've challenged the girls and they've been rising up to the challenge." Comments are closed.
