The Solanco boys and girls cross country teams turned in a solid showing at the Lancaster-Lebanon League meet Tuesday, October 15 in Ephrata. "It was a very good day," coach Craig Ausel said. The girls finished seventh in the team standings.
Freshman Morgan Perry earned a medal by finishing in seventh place with a time of 20:13. "Morgan ran a very smart race," said Ausel. "She has consistently challenged the league's top runners all season long. A top 10 finish for a freshman is a great accomplishment." Ausel said Essi Glah-Fisher had her best race of the season, finishing 22nd in a time of 21:09. "Essi got out strong and ran a very consistent race," the coach said. Natalie Crum was the Mules' third runner, finishing 25th (21:18). "Both Natalie and Essi have battled back from injury this season and made it count," Ausel said. "We are very proud of their team commitment." Captain Carly Allport ran another solid race, finishing in 22:39 for a 58th place finish. "Carly's consistent scoring has been very important to our team scoring all year long," said Ausel. Julia Whitehill finished 86th (23:36). "Julia started a little slow but ran a great last mile to make up quite a few places," Ausel said. Senior Dakota White was 99th in 24:12. The Solanco boys finished eighth, defeating four teams that beat them during the regular season. "Our boys put together a very unified effort," said Ausel. Noah Brady (ninth in 17:01) and Liam Hodgson (15th in 17:15) paced the Mules. "Noah has really learned how to run big races," said Ausel. "Noah got out to a very strong start and moved up seven places in the last half of the race. Liam also got out smart and moved up 10 places in the final two miles of the race. It was very exciting to see both boys run such smart races." Matthew Curran was 34th in 17:51. "This was one of Matthew's very best times of the season," said Ausel. "Matthew was sitting at 78th place at the mile mark but set his mind to passing 44 runners, overcoming the deficit and helping his team subtract those points." Kyle Munro was next in 46th place in 18:04. Connor Brown was the Mules' fifth finisher (122nd in 19:55). Freshman Connor Neaves was 13th in 20:41. "We are very pleased with the individual efforts that contributed to strong team performances," said Ausel. "Our runners responded to the opportunity in front of them and they got to enjoy the feelings that comes with those accomplishments." The District 3 meet is scheduled for Wednesday.
