The Solanco Black 10u softball team completed a perfect season with a dramatic victory in the Donegal Rheems Girls Softball League championship game. Solanco edged Elizabethtown 3-2 in seven innings Thursday night to finish the season with a 14-0 record. Under tiebreaker rules, Jane Grube started the bottom of the seventh on second base and Chloe Campos delivered the title-winning RBI single to left field.
Winning pitcher Ava Martin hurled a complete game with 14 strikeouts and yielded three hits and two walks. Trailing 1-0, Solanco tied it in the second. Macey Miller singled and scored on Brooklynn King's bunt single. Solanco took a 2-1 lead in the fourth as Julia Phipps singled and scored on a Miller hit. Elizabethtown tied the game 2-2 with an unearned run in the top of the fifth. Solanco won the Central Division and advanced to the championship game with a 3-0 triumph over Donegal Tribe Black Tuesday, June 18, at Solanco High. Ava Martin tossed a shutout to lead Solanco and also added an RBI single as the hosts scored all of the game's runs in the first inning. After Martin retired the side in order in the top of the first, Solanco leadoff hitter Jane Grube reached on an error. After an out, Martin plated Grube. With two outs, Martin scored when Chloe Campos was safe on an error and Macey Miller followed with an RBI single. Solanco preserved the shutout with a couple of good defensive plays in the sixth. The shortstop Campos retrieved an errant throw and fired home to the catcher Julia Phipps for an out at the plate. Martin snagged a line drive for the final out. Comments are closed.
