The Solanco girls basketball team dropped a pair of games after earning their second victory. The Mules suffered a 40-22 setback to Section Two rival Elizabethtown Friday night. The Bears broke the game open by outscoring Solanco 11-0 in the third quarter. The Mules trailed by three at the end of the first quarter and were down seven at halftime. "We had our opportunities in the third quarter but we just missed a lot of shots," coach Chad McDowell said. "(Elizabethtown) didn't change anything. We just missed shots. We got a lot of good looks but couldn't connect. It was just one of those nights where the shots didn't go in." Rachel Trout paced Solanco with 10 points, seven rebounds, and six steals. Megan Yannutz added six points and nine rebounds. Cayla Robinson recorded four points. Jen Eberly added two points and six rebounds and Taylor Stitz grabbed seven rebounds. The Mules lost 59-14 to host Hempfield last Wednesday night. "It was another one of those nights where nothing we did seemed to work," said McDowell. "Hempfield shot over 60 percent. We didn't do anything wrong. Hempfield just played so well. They have 10 solid players. I give all the credit to them. They played well." Trout had four points and three rebounds and Yannutz contributed four points and two boards. Eberly collected two points, four rebounds, and three steals. Solanco edged Warwick 50-48 Monday, December 15, in the first home game of the year. The Mules battled back from a 24-11 second quarter deficit. Solanco outscored Warwick 17-5 in the third quarter to go up by three. The Mules led by as many as eight in the fourth quarter. Warwick hit a couple three-pointers to get within striking distance before Solanco put the game away at the free throw line. "We played well," said McDowell. "It was a great game and a great atmosphere. The girls really performed well." Trout led the Mules with 15 points, seven rebounds, and six steals. She made 3 of 4 from the foul line in the fourth quarter. Haley Conklin contributed 12 points, four rebounds, and six assists, and hit 5 of 8 from the charity stripe to help seal the deal. Jen Eberly had eight points, six rebounds, and three assists. Eberly also turned in an outstanding defensive performance. She held Warwick's Rylee Derr, the league's leading scorer, to just 12 points, 10 below her average of 22 coming into the game. Nikki Boultinghouse provided seven points and two rebounds. Yannutz recorded six points and five rebounds and Stitz had two points, five rebounds, and four steals. Solanco hosts Conestoga Valley Tuesday and takes part in Warwick's holiday tournament Friday and Saturday. Comments are closed.
