The Solanco girls track and field team downed Cocalico 83-67 and the boys fell 88-62 in a home meet under warm, sunny conditions Tuesday, April 23. "What a great day for a meet," Solanco coach Ivan Haines said. "Hopefully the weather will stay good. Both teams performed well in the good weather. They finally had a warm day to compete…The staff is very proud of both teams on well they performed. They will have to continue to improve to compete with the remaining two teams in our season."
Alana Yoder, Aubree Roop, and Troyana Miller each won two events to pace the Mules. "The girls came away with a great win," said Haines. "The staff is very proud in the way they performed. Most areas outperformed what they were predicted to do earning points in areas that they were not predicted to earn." Yoder captured the 200 and 400 (PR of 1 minute). Roop recorded victories in the 1600 and 3200. Miller prevailed in the shot put and discus (PR of 105-7). Kerith Paine triumphed in the pole vault and Greta Plechner finished first in the high jump. Haines said senior Aleksa Burger continues to improve in the horizontal jumps. She earned second place in the long and triple jumps by performing her personal best in both jumps by more than a foot. "Once again the numbers of personal bests were over 15 and what is nice to see is that most points were earned by underclassmen," said Haines. In the boys competition, juniors Colin Althoff (100, 400) and Dom Messano (long jump, triple jump) each won two individual events and were part of the victorious 4 x 400 relay team. "Colin continues to improve in his events anchoring the 4 X 400 meter relay to the relay’s best time of the season," said Haines. "Dom also jumped his personal bests in both of his jumps." Senior Will Peredes won the 200 meter dash and was second in the 100. Jose Serrano placed second in the 1600 and 800 and then ran on the winning 4 x 400 relay. "As with the girls’ team, most points were earned by underclassmen and 17 personal bests were earned by the team," Haines said. "The boys’ team went up against a team stacked in the throwing events. Although throwing personal bests by most of our throwers, they were not able to place." Comments are closed.
